| NSPE SUGGESTS GOING BEYOND ABET EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS |
Fri 30, Apr 10 |
|
A recent position statement by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) recommended specific additions to ABET educational requirements to be implemented with ten years. Those recommendations included educational modules encompassing principles of leadership, accounting for risk and uncertainty, fundamentals of project management, public policy as it affects engineering, business concepts of engineering practice and sustainable design and evaluation of engineering systems. The additional learning outcomes would be applied at the baccalaureate level as a means of grounding engineers in an understanding of the cultural and economic framework within which they will practice.
