All About PDHs
RCEP uses Professional Development Hours (PDHs) to quantify continuing education activities. Generally, each PDH represents one full hour of instruction/learning. Here are 9 ways for engineers, surveyors and design professionals to earn PDHs this year: 1. College courses 2. Continuing education courses 3. Short courses/tutorials and distance-education courses offered through correspondence, television, videotapes, or the Internet 4 Attending qualifying seminars, in-house courses, workshops, or professional or technical presentations made at meetings, conventions, or conferences 5. Teaching or instructing in 1 through 4 above 6. Authoring published papers, articles, books, or accepted licensing examination items 7. Active participation in professional or technical societies 8. Patents 9. Other (for example, a jurisdiction-specific activity)
The conversion of other units of credit to PDHs is as follows:
1. 1 college or unit semester course------------------------------------------------------45 PDHs 2. 1 college or unit quarter course--------------------------------------------------------30 PDHs 3. 1 hour of professional development in course work, seminars, or professional or technical presentations made at meetings, conventions, or conferences-------------------------------------------------------------1 PDH 5. For teaching in 1 through 4 above, apply multiple of 2 6. Publications a. Each published peer reviewed paper or book in the licensee’s area of professional practice-------------------------10 PDHs b. Each published paper or article (other than 6a above) in the licensee’s area of professional practice---------------------5 PDHs 7. Active participation in professional and Technical societies (each organization) --------------------------------------------2 PDHs 8. Each patent -------------------------------------------------------------------------------10 PDHs
If you attend courses that use Continuing Education Units (CEUs), please note that for conversion purposes, 1 CEU = 10 PDHs.

The Center for Professional Engineering Education Services provides U.S. engineering and surveying licensing boards with accurate, consistent, and uniform credential evaluations that can be used in assessing foreign-educated candidates for licensure. 3. Using the FE exam as an outcomes assessment tool provides a means of objective comparison with other institutions. The detailed reports of performance by subject area provide information that can help evaluate a program’s success in achieving the outcomes specified by Engineering Criteria 2000. Over time, these reports can also help the program document the effect of curriculum revisions, teaching innovations, and other actions taken to improve student mastery of engineering studies.
